THE DECORATIONS TEAM

This year's Urban Decay Cafe Decorations Team is in charge of the look and feel of our Shade space.  They are going to create a facade that resembles an ancient ruin, overtaken by jungle flora and fauna.

The proposed construction of the facade is for it to be built out of cardboard, painted to look like an ancient ruin, reinforced with wood and attached to the shade structure with twisty ties. The Structure will be decorated with jungle vines made from twisted paper grocery bags and stuffed jungle animals.

The facade-building team will need to be residents of San Fransisco.  Team members living elsewhere can contribute to the decor by assembling vines, and providing lighting and stuffed animals (snakes, monkeys, butterflies)

Hey Everyone!

I’m super excited about this year – it will be my 15th Burn and the 25th Anniversary of Burning Man – Wow!!

My first Burn was in 1994 when there were only 2000 people at Burning Man and our camp was 12 people. Every year our community grew until we eventually became Avalon Village, a 300 person community of about 7 theme camps, and Burning Man grew to 50,000 people. Some people say that Burning Man has lost something from its beginning days, but for me, it’s just grown more expansive while keeping its spirit intact.

In the past I’ve been an organizer for Avalon Village and the Mudskippers, but this year I’ve decided to just go to Burning Man and rediscover the experience of just being a part of it. I’m already thrilled with this decision! You know, sometimes less is more, and I’m already really enjoying every minute of preparing for the Burn this year and just being a part of our community.

I’ve had some of my best experiences in life at Burning Man – that’s why I keep coming back. And some years are special, like they are a leap forward for the community. I already feel like this is one of those special years.

Really looking forward to some quality time on the playa with all you Mudskippers!!

Love, Puck

SHOWERS TEAM

Duke is delighted to join the Mudskippers for 2010 and considers it a serendipitous liaison since he enjoys mud AND skipping so equally. He works and plays at a professional theatre in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in western North Carolina as Resident Creative. As actor, musician, foam sculptor, textile maven, taxidermist... Duke is grateful that his means of livelihood is rarely boring or without creative challenges—not entirely unlike life at his playa home—just with less dust and nudity. Slightly. In his copious free time he enjoys playing his upright bass [Myrna Loy], howling at the moon, and writing about himself in third-person. He returns to BRC for his second Burn with his partner of nearly 18 years, the eponymous Bird, of Dukenbird.

Haaaaay ya’all!!!!

This will be my 5th year at Burning Man and my 2nd year with the fabulous Mudskippers!  I’ve camped with UT in the past, but I’m now super excited to be sharing my experiences with this new tribe. When I’m away from Black Rock City, I spend my time as a political wonk (but please don’t hold that against me).

I’m part Earth Mother, part Diva and always ready for a good time.

Burning Man is my spiritual home.  It is where I celebrate the New Year, where I go to reconnect with my soul mates and reclaim the parts of myself that sometimes get lost in the default world.

I can’t wait to return home.

I’ll see you all under the shade structures, sun and stars.

SHOWERS TEAM

Bird is atwitter to wing to BRC for his second burn. The invitation to nest at Mudskipper Café assures the 2,459-mile migration to the playa will be a welcome homecoming – thank you my amphibious friends. Root beer floats, potluck dinners, creative companionship, playa dust – what more could an avian ask for? Bird eagerly flocks with the Decoration & Shower Teams and will wholeheartedly flit over to any other Mudskipper in need of assistance or cheerful camaraderie. Bird flies side-by-side with Duke and together they seek next inspired adventure. (Apparently Bird writes in third-person too.) Anticipating the journey…
